RRR's "Naatu Naatu" won an 'Oscar'(2023) for best original song

SS Rajamouli's "RRR" has become the first Indian feature film to win an Oscar, with the soundtrack "Naatu Naatu" by MM Keeravani being awarded Best Original Song Award at the 95th Academy Awards in Los Angeles, United States. Composer and lyricist Chandrabose collected the award together, and composer gave his acceptance speech in tune to The Carpenters' 1970s song Top of the World.

"Naatu Naatu" is the first song from an Indian movie to win an Oscar, with singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava receiving a standing ovation at the ceremony.

RRR is a historical fantasy starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in lead roles. The film's director, SS Rajamouli, envisioned Naatu Naatu as a "fight scene" in which two freedom fighters bring a British officer to his knees through dance. The song made history in January when it won the Golden Globe for best original song.

Chandrabose came up with the hook line of "Naatu Naatu" which means "raw and rustic" in Telugu. The majority of the song was completed in two days, but it took 19 months for the remaining portion to come together. Prem Rakshit, the song's choreographer, composed about 95 dance steps for the track, each of them having their own style.
